One of North America’s great eagle gatherings

Every winter, the Squamish and Cheakamus rivers host one of the largest concentrations of bald eagles in North America, drawn by the salmon run. It’s a world-class wildlife spectacle — and surprisingly easy to see.

What you can book

  • Eagle float trips (Nov–Feb) — gentle guided raft floats with expert naturalists, ideal for photography.
  • Eagle-viewing tours — land-based viewing at prime spots like Brackendale.
  • Whitewater rafting (summer) — the same rivers offer exciting rapids in the warmer months.

Good to know

  • Eagle season: Roughly mid-November through February; peak counts are usually in January.
  • Brackendale is historically one of the best viewing areas in the world for wintering bald eagles.
  • Dress warm: Winter float trips are cold but calm — dress in layers.

The annual eagle count has recorded thousands of birds in a single day — bring binoculars and a zoom lens.
